Turkish Citizenship for Chinese Investors: A Structured Path West

How Chinese investors approach the Turkish program: apostilled documents, structuring transfers within currency rules, single-nationality planning and the E-2 route to the US.

Chinese interest in the Turkish program has grown steadily as Türkiye's position between Asia and Europe, familiar from the Belt and Road narrative, translates into a personal opportunity: a G20-country second passport at a threshold far below comparable programs.

Documents: simpler since apostille

China joined the Apostille Convention in November 2023, which removed the old consular legalisation chain. Birth certificates, marriage certificates and notarial certificates now take an apostille from the provincial foreign affairs office, then sworn translation into Turkish. Files that once took a month of legalisation now prepare in days.

Moving funds within the rules

China's $50,000 annual individual foreign exchange quota means a $400,000 investment is rarely funded directly from the mainland. Successful Chinese files rely on funds already offshore: Hong Kong accounts, business proceeds abroad, or long-standing overseas savings, always in the applicant's own name with a clean paper trail. As with all nationalities, the transfer path is designed before the purchase, not improvised after it.

The nationality question

China does not recognise dual nationality; acquiring Turkish citizenship voluntarily means, under Chinese law, loss of Chinese nationality. Some clients accept this as part of an emigration plan; others hold Turkish residence through the property first and defer the citizenship decision. Both paths are legitimate and we model both in the assessment.
